Sarah is a Senior Associate at Cullen - The Employment Law Firm.
She holds a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Arts from Victoria University of Wellington and a Diploma in Spanish from Spain's Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport.
Sarah advises clients from a range of industries and sectors on their legal rights and obligations in respect of contentious and non-contentious employment matters. The breadth and depth of Sarah's life and work experience enables her to connect and communicate effectively with a diverse range of people and provide pragmatic and easy to understand advice, strategies and solutions.
Sarah regularly represents clients in negotiations and mediations. She has also represented clients in legal proceedings before the Employment Relations Authority, Employment Court, District Court and High Court. In addition to being a lawyer, Sarah also works as a mediator to resolve employment disputes.
Sarah is a learner of Te Reo Māori and has a keen interest in the intersection of employment law and tikanga Māori. She has expertise in acting for Maori clients in a tikanga Māori context.
Sarah is a member of the New Zealand Law Society, the Employment Law and Women in Law Committees of the Wellington Branch of New Zealand Law Society, and Peace Brigades International. She is also on the Panel of Mediators for the New Zealand Law Society's Lawyers Complaint Service and is a facilitator for the Wellington City Council's 'Wellington Conversations' pilot programme.
Sarah has travelled, worked and studied in more than 30 countries and has a strong interest in Latin America. In 2015 and 2016 worked in human rights for an international NGO in Colombia. Her role involved accompanying local human rights advocates and lawyers, advocacy, and international observation of human rights processes, including in zones of armed conflict.
Additionally, Sarah has non-legal work experience in a wide range of industries including retail, sales, motor vehicle, entertainment, recreation, not-for-profit, hospitality and tertiary education. She is bilingual in Spanish/English.
